The six-month return chart for the value mutual fund category is led by Quant Value Fund, which delivered 20.9 percent. Aditya Birla SL Value Fund and DSP Value Fund occupy the next two positions with returns of 7.4 percent and 5.0 percent, respectively, according to ACE MF data on July 22.
The ranking considers only schemes with assets under management of at least Rs 1,500 crore. Among the top five funds that meet this criterion, HDFC Value Fund has the largest corpus at Rs 7,583.3 crore.
The benchmark comparison is also important. Quant Value Fund was ahead of its benchmark by 18.7 percentage points on a one-year basis, with the benchmark returning -3.2%. It was also ahead of its benchmark by 14.0 percentage points on a three-year basis, with the benchmark returning 8.0%.
The order changes on a one-month basis. DSP Value Fund delivered the strongest return among these five schemes at 1.2 percent.
The three-month return table also has Quant Value Fund in front, with the fund delivering 8.5 percent.
The lead does not change on a three-year basis either. Quant Value Fund also tops this comparison with a return of 22.0 percent.
The variation across return windows shows why rankings can look different depending on the period being considered. A short-term leader may not always be the same as the fund that has done well over a longer horizon.

What is a value fund?
Funds in the value fund category should be assessed against schemes with similar investment mandates. Return comparisons across unrelated categories may not be meaningful because risk, asset allocation and portfolio strategy can differ sharply.
