Market on Friday | Sensex gains 331 points, Nifty climbs above 24,150
In yet another volatile session on August 28, Indian equity indices ended higher, snapping a two-day losing streak, with the Nifty managing to close above 24,150, led by gains in Information Technology stocks.
At close, the Sensex was up 330.92 points or 0.43 percent at 77,264.51, and the Nifty was up 84.80 points or 0.35 percent at 24,175.65.
The market extended its losses for the third consecutive week, with the BSE Sensex and Nifty50 declining 0.3% each during the week.
The broader market underperformed the benchmark indices, with Nifty midcap and smallcap indices ended with little change.
Biggest Nifty gainers were TCS, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Wipro, HCL Technologies, while losers included Asian Paints, Shriram Finance, ITC, ICICI Bank and UltraTech Cement.
Mixed trend seen on the sectoral front, with IT index rose 3.5%, pharma, metal, media indices up 0.4% each. On the other hand, consumer durable, FMCG down 0.4% each.
