Social Security benefits are being sent out on Tuesday, November 10: who gets a payment?
Across the U.S., millions of Social Security beneficiaries are to receive an early check next week, as the Social Security Administration (SSA) kicks off the program’s three-Wednesdays payment cycle for November 2026.
Why the early November payment?
Each month, most Social Security recipients are issued their benefits on the second, third or fourth Wednesday, with their designated payment date determined by their birthday.
In November, however, this distribution cycle will kick in slightly ahead of its usual schedule. This is because the month’s second Wednesday is Veterans Day, a federal holiday that honors members of the U.S.’s armed forces.
Beneficiaries born from the first to the 10th of any month, who would typically be paid on Wednesday 11, will instead get their November money on Tuesday 10.
Social Security’s three-Wednesdays cycle will then revert to its regular schedule on November 18 and 25.
November 2026’s full three-Wednesdays cycle:
- Born on 1st-10th of month: Tuesday, Nov. 10
- Born on 11th-20th of month: Wednesday, Nov. 18
- Born on 21st-31st of month: Wednesday, Nov. 25
NB: If you get Social Security based on someone else’s employment record, the SSA uses the other person’s birthday to determine your designated Wednesday.

What other Social Security payment dates does Nov. 2026 have?
November 10 is the second of four payment dates on the SSA’s Social Security schedule for this month.
This week, the agency distributed benefits to two groups of recipients who get their money outside of the three-Wednesdays cycle:
- Nov. 3: Social Security paid to dual beneficiaries and some long-term recipients
On Tuesday, November 3, this month’s Social Security benefits were distributed to people who started receiving their monthly payments before May 1997.
In addition, Tuesday 3 was November’s Social Security payment date for recipients who also claim Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
A need-based benefit for certain low-income Americans, SSI is separate to the Social Security program, despite also being run by the SSA.
Unlike Social Security, applicants do not have to earn work credits to qualify for SSI payments. Worth an average of $735.86 per month, SSI was distributed for November on Friday, October 30.

- Retirement: $2,034.54
- Disability: $1,499.41
- Survivor: $1,636.31

How much is 2027’s COLA raise?
In a bid to safeguard beneficiaries’ purchasing power, the SSA announced last month that it will raise Social Security and SSI benefit amounts by 3.6% in 2027.
Across all Social Security recipients, this translates into an increase of around $70 on the current average payment, which stands at a monthly $1,943.15.
How does Social Security make benefits payments?
- Direct deposit
Recipients of Social Security benefits can supply the SSA with their bank details using the online “my Social Security” tool.
- Direct Express
Money can be loaded onto the Direct Express Card, a special debit card for federal disbursements made to recipients who do not have a bank account. Sign up for the debit card at 1-800-333-1795 or 1-800-772-1213, or at a Social Security office.
