Social Security calculator: how to estimate my benefits with the predicted COLA increase for 2027?
The Social Security Administration will be announcing the annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) increase next month. As prices from food to fuel continue to rise in the United States, Social Security beneficiaries will be looking forward to seeing how much of a boost their monthly payments will get.
The current prediction from The Senior Citizens’ League forecasts a 3.5% increase based on inflation data from August. This is slightly lower than the 3.6% COLA forecast a month earlier.
The COLA will be applied to benefits corresponding to January next year. The SSA will begin sending notifications to beneficiaries of how much their monthly payments will increase starting in early December.
How to estimate how much your Social Security benefit could increase in 2027
For those who want to get an idea ahead of time of how the COLA could increase their current benefit payment there is a simple calculation to get an idea. Based on the current TSCL prediction, you need to multiply your current benefit by 1.035.
For instance, if your monthly payment is $1,200, you would multiply that figure by 1.035, which equals $1,242, an increase of $42.

How much will the average monthly payment increase?
According to TSCL, if their 3.5% COLA prediction holds, the average monthly benefit for a retired worker in 2026 of $2,086 would increase to $2,159, an increase of $73.
The average monthly benefit for all beneficiaries is currently $1,940.00. Under their forecasted COLA, that would rise to $2,007.9, a $67.90 boost next year.
