Social Security is being paid out on Wednesday, July 22: who gets benefits?
In the coming days, millions of benefits recipients in the U.S. are scheduled to get their latest monthly money, as the Social Security Administration (SSA) rounds off July 2026’s payment timeline for the Social Security program.
Who gets Social Security on Wednesday, July 22?
Of the country’s 71.3 million Social Security beneficiaries, many are paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in each month, depending on their birthday.
July 22 is the fourth Wednesday in the month, so Social Security payments are to be issued to recipients born from the 21st to the 31st of any month.
July 2026’s full three-Wednesdays schedule is:
- Born on 1st-10th of any month: Wednesday, July 8
- Born on 11th-20th of any month: Wednesday, July 15
- Born on 21st-31st of any month: Wednesday, July 22
NB: If you claim Social Security based on someone else’s employment history, the SSA applies the other person’s date of birth.

What other Social Security payment runs are there in July?
- July 2: Payments to certain long-term recipients
Beneficiaries who started claiming before May 1997 were paid July’s Social Security on Thursday 2, no matter their date of birth.
- July 2: Payments to recipients who also get SSI
July 2 was also this month’s Social Security payment date for recipients who combine the program with Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a benefit for certain low-income, low-resource individuals. July’s SSI was issued on Wednesday 1.
Social Security is normally issued to the above long-term and dual beneficiaries on the third of each month, but money was distributed early because July 3 was a federal holiday.

(Average monthly benefit, according to figures published by the SSA.)
