Across the U.S., certain Social Security beneficiaries are due to receive their latest monthly money next week, as the Social Security Administration (SSA) concludes its three-Wednesdays payment cycle for September 2026.
Who receives Social Security on Wednesday, September 23?
Of the 71.3 million beneficiaries of the Social Security program, many are paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in each month, depending on their birthday.
As September 23 is the fourth Wednesday in the month, payments are to be sent out to beneficiaries born between the 21st and the 31st of any month.

What other payment dates are there in September 2026?
There are two groups of Social Security beneficiaries whose payment date is not birthday-dependent.
- September 3: Certain long-term recipients
On Thursday 3, September’s Social Security was scheduled to be issued to beneficiaries who started receiving their monthly payments before May 1997.
- September 3: Dual beneficiaries (Social Security + SSI)
September 3 was also this month’s Social Security distribution date for individuals who simultaneously claim Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
A benefit for certain low-income, low-resource people, SSI differs from the Social Security program as it is needs-based. Unlike Social Security, SSI eligibility is not dependent on a claimant’s employment record.
