Across the United States, certain Social Security beneficiaries are to receive their latest monthly payment tomorrow, as the U.S.’s Social Security Administration (SSA) rounds off the program’s distribution timeline for September 2026.
Who receives Social Security tomorrow, Wednesday, September 23?
Of the 71.3 million recipients of Social Security in the U.S., many are paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in each month, depending on their birthday.
As tomorrow is the fourth Wednesday in September, Social Security is to be issued to beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st of any month.

What other payment runs does September 2026 have?
Tomorrow’s distribution date is the last of four payment runs on this month’s Social Security schedule.
In the first week of September, per the SSA’s distribution calendar, the agency issued benefits to two groups of recipients whose payment date is not birthday-dependent:
- Thursday, September 3: Double beneficiaries and some long-term recipients
On September 3, this month’s Social Security benefits were to be issued to recipients who started claiming their monthly payments before May 1997.
Thursday 3 was also September’s Social Security distribution date for individuals who claim Supplemental Security Income (SSI) at the same time.
A benefit for certain low-income, low-resource people, SSI differs from the Social Security program as it is needs-based. Unlike Social Security, SSI eligibility is not dependent on a claimant’s employment record.
