Most Social Security recipients will receive their regular checks in October, with one exception.

Social Security benefits are typically disbursed to nearly 74 million beneficiaries on Wednesdays, but your exact payment date depends on your birth date. If you were born between the 1st and 10th, you’re paid on the second Wednesday of the month, which is Oct. 14. If your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th, you’re paid on the third Wednesday, which is Oct. 21. And if you were born after the 20th, you’re paid on the fourth Wednesday of the month, which is Oct. 28, according to the Social Security Administration’s calendar.

Here’s what to know about the Social Security payment for 2026 and when checks will go out in October.

October 2026 Social Security payment schedule

The Social Security Administration’s 2026 payment schedules are available online to help recipients to plan their budgets accordingly.

Regular Social Security retirement benefits will be issued according to the SSA’s standard payment schedule:

• Oct. 14: Birth dates between the first and 10th of the month.

• Oct. 21: Birth dates between the 11th and the 20th of the month.

• Oct. 28: Birth dates between the 21st and the 31st of the month.

SSI payments in October 2026

Beneficiaries who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will receive two checks in October 2026: one on Oct. 1 for the month of October and one on Oct. 30 for the month of November. This happens because Nov. 1 falls on a Sunday.

Supplemental Security Income checks will be sent out on the following dates in 2026, according to the SSA calendar.

• Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026 (Check for October 2026)

• Friday, Oct. 30, 2026 (Check for November 2026)
