Stock futures are near flat Tuesday night after a rally in bond yields and oil prices led Wall Street to another down day.
Dow Jones Industrial Average futures added 25 points, or 0.1%. S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures also each added 0.1%.
Wall Street is coming off a third straight negative session that left the Dow down more than 400 points. Technology stocks dragged the market lower, with the Nasdaq Composite sliding by around 1%.
West Texas Intermediate oil prices jumped above $90 per barrel on Tuesday, marking its highest level since late July. The U.S. launched more military strikes on Iran, raising concern that the conflict could reescalate.
The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield climbed to its highest level since early 2025 on Tuesday. The 10-year yield’s ascent offered the latest sign of a global selloff in the bond market that some investors fear could look similar to the 1997 Asian financial crisis.
“Higher yields are proving to be the stock market’s undoing,” said Thierry Wizman, global foreign exchange and rates strategist at Macquarie Group. “They force analysts to discount higher earnings more aggressively, thus forcing [price-to-earnings] multiples downward.”
Investors will watch for the ADP’s private payrolls data for August on Wednesday. Traders will also monitor factory earnings data and the Federal Reserve’s Beige Book.
Investors will follow earnings from Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Snowflake and Broadcom due after the bell Wednesday.
