Trump absolutely loses it on Wall Street Journal after being called a ‘sucker’
President Donald Trump really did not appreciate being called a “sucker” by a Wall Street Journal columnist.
Elliot Kaufman, a member of the Wall Street Journal’s editorial board, penned an opinion piece Monday headlined “The Iranians Take Trump for a Sucker.” The piece highlighted how Trump had announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz twice, only for Iran to shut it down again.
Kaufman argued that Iran has “swindled” the U.S. by repeatedly closing the Strait of Hormuz after Trump prematurely declared that it was open. He highlighted how Iran’s military announced on Saturday that the strait was closed, with the regime demanding the U.S. end its blockade on its ports.

“This will be the Iranians’ third swindle—if Mr. Trump goes along. The regime wants the strait closed and U.S. leverage diminished for nuclear negotiations. ‘They can’t blackmail us,’ Mr. Trump said on Sunday. But they think they can. Certainly, they are comfortable embarrassing the president. What’s stopping them from playing the same games over their stockpiles of enriched uranium?” Kaufman wrote.
“Mr. Trump first suspended attacks on Iran, then on Hezbollah. Iran now presses him to give up U.S. economic leverage too. Sometimes, diplomacy can lock in military gains. This time, it has been set up to give them away,” he concluded.
Trump, who frequently attacks those who criticize him, lashed out at Kaufman in a Tuesday post on Truth Social. He began his Truth Social rant in all capital letters, writing: “THE WALL STREET JOURNAL HAS LOST ITS WAY!”
“An IDIOT on The Wall Street Journal’s Editorial Board, named Elliot Kaufman, just wrote an Op Ed entitled, ‘The Iranians Take Trump for a Sucker.’ Really? For 47 years, they have killed our people, and many others, and taken advantage of every President, except me — And what did I give to them, a Country in tatters!“ Trump wrote in a nearly 300-word message.

He went on to argue that Iran’s Navy is “at the bottom of the sea,” its Air Force is gone and its nuclear labs were “obliterated” in a June 2025 attack. He also claimed that the Strait of Hormuz is “totally controlled by the U.S.”
He then criticized previous presidents over their stances on Iran.
“Other Presidents did nothing to stop them, a BLIGHT on the Office of the Presidency! But despite all of this, I have a MORON on the Editorial Board of The Wall Street Journal writing about me being taken for a ‘sucker,’” he said.
“Iran certainly doesn’t think so! Neither does anyone else. I guess Rupert Murdoch told him to write it this way, because The Wall Street Journal has lost its way, no longer required reading, just another failing political ‘RAG!’” he concluded.

Some social media critics sounded the alarm on Trump’s post.
S.V. Date, a journalist at HuffPost, wrote on X: “To the seven or eight people left in this country who still believe the president is not insane: Please read this in its entirety. Out loud.”
“Trump is melting down on Truth Social tonight,” Ron Filipkowski, editor-in-chief of MeidasTouch, posted.
