Warren Buffett says he hasn’t drunk water in 48 years, reveals unusual habit to Bill Ackman
Warren Buffett may be one of the world’s most successful investors, but his drinking habits could surprise even his biggest admirers. The billionaire investor has reportedly claimed that he has not consumed water in 48 years, preferring his favourite soft drink instead.
The unusual revelation came from fellow billionaire Bill Ackman, who recalled a dinner conversation with Buffett during an appearance on the Equity Mates Investing podcast, according to a report by Business Insider.
Ackman, the founder and CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management, said he had once invited Buffett over for dinner and made special arrangements for his guest, knowing about his fondness for Cherry Coke. He had stocked up on the beverage ahead of the meeting.
During dinner, Ackman offered Buffett a choice between still and sparkling water. However, the legendary investor declined both options. Curious about his preference, Ackman asked whether Buffett drank water at all.
Buffett’s reported response left him surprised.
“Bill, I haven’t had water in 48 years,” Buffett reportedly told Ackman.
Ackman did not elaborate on what Buffett drinks throughout the day or provide further details about the billionaire’s alleged avoidance of water. The 48-year claim is based on Ackman’s recollection of their private conversation and has not been independently verified, Business Insider reported.
Warren Buffett‘s decades-long love for Cherry Coke
Buffett’s preference for Coca-Cola is hardly a secret. The billionaire has spoken about his fondness for the beverage for decades, and his association with the brand goes back to the 1980s.
In his 1985 shareholder letter, published in March 1986, Buffett announced that he was switching to Coca-Cola after 48 years of loyalty to another soft drink. He also declared Cherry Coke the official beverage of Berkshire Hathaway’s annual shareholder meeting.
The investment veteran’s long-standing association with Coca-Cola is also reflected in Berkshire Hathaway’s investment portfolio, which has included a substantial stake in the beverage company for decades.
Buffett’s reported dinner-table remark has now offered another glimpse into the unusual personal habits of one of the world’s most closely followed investors.
