When August Social Security payments will go out

Millions of Americans who receive Social Security benefits will receive their August payments on one of four dates, depending on when they began receiving benefits and their birth date, according to the Social Security Administration.

Most retirement, survivor and disability beneficiaries will receive payments on one of three Wednesdays in August:

• Aug. 12: Beneficiaries with birthdays from the 1st through the 10th.

• Aug. 19: Beneficiaries with birthdays from the 11th through the 20th.

• Aug. 26: Beneficiaries with birthdays from the 21st through the 31st.

People who began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997, as well as those who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), will receive their Social Security payment on Aug. 3, the agency said.

Meanwhile, standard SSI recipients will receive their August benefit on Friday, July 31, because Aug. 1 falls on a Saturday. The Social Security Administration issues SSI payments on the preceding business day whenever the first of the month falls on a weekend or federal holiday. As a result, there will be no regular SSI payment issued during the calendar month of August, even though beneficiaries are still receiving their August benefit in advance.

The Social Security Administration advises beneficiaries who do not receive a payment on the expected date to wait three additional mailing days before contacting the agency. Recipients are also encouraged to check with their financial institution before reporting a missing payment.
