When is the new Home Depot in The Villages of Florida set to open?
With the traditional cutting of a wooden board, a new Home Depot could be close to celebrating its grand opening in the Wildwood area of The Villages of Florida.
Construction on the 106,700 square foot store began in July 2023 and on Feb. 15, Construction Journal noted that it is nearing completion.
While the company has not officially announced an exact date for its grand opening, given the recent progress on site, the big day can’t be far off.
Although every Home Depot store has the same aisles, no two stores are built exactly the same. This new store will include a 28,000 square foot garden center, a truck rental center, a shed display and about 500 parking spaces – where you just might find cars adorned with multi-color loofas.
Where is Home Depot in The Villages/Wildwood located?
Situated at the corner of County Road 466A and Powell Road, the new store was built on 19.64 acres and is located at 7368 Powell Road in the city of Wildwood — which includes the southernmost expansion area of The Villages.
In 2018, the city of Wildwood sold 5,600 acres — providing space for about 22,000 new homes — to The Villages, extending the community beyond the Village of Southern Oaks between County Road 501 and Florida’s Turnpike.
At the time of the sale, Wildwood Mayor Ed Wolf said the deal just made sense.
“The Villages purchasing this property should not come as a surprise to anyone,” Wolf said. “The Villages owns the adjacent land, and it made perfect sense. From our perspective as a city, it’s a great deal.”
According to the most recent U.S Census data, The Villages/Wildwood area is now the nation’s fastest-growing metro.
