Is the stock market open on July 4th? The answer to this question is no. But this is because the Fourth of July falls on a Saturday in 2026, and the stock market is never open on Saturday.
The stock market will be also be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Bond traders will get a long holiday weekend, too, with the bond market also closed on Friday.
What’s more, both the stock and bond markets close early on Thursday, July 2, at 1 pm and 2 pm Eastern Standard Time, respectively, so market participants can get a head start on their Fourth of July festivities.
For those wondering what time the market opens for regular trading hours, both the Nasdaq Stock Market and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) run from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm Eastern Time Monday through Friday.
Are banks open on July 3rd or July 4th this year? The answer to that question is mixed. Saturday, July 4, is one of several bank holidays in 2026, so banks will also be closed, but many branches will remain open on Friday, July 3, even though it is a federal holiday. You’ll want to check your own branch’s operating hours for the holiday.
