WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. employers added a surprising 228,000 jobs last month, showing that the American labor market was in solid shape as President Donald Trump embarked on a risky trade war with the rest of the world. The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.2%.
The hiring numbers were up from 117,000 in February and were nearly double the 130,000 that economists had expected.
After a brief respite on Wednesday, Apple’s stock restarted its downward trajectory triggered by President Trump’s accelerating tariff battle with China.

Trump’s escalation of his trade war has dragged down the market’s highest-flying stocks— but there’s good reason to think that Nvidia could ultimately be relatively unscathed in a trade war.
That’s according to Morgan Stanley, which called Nvidia its “Top Pick” in the market on Thursday, even as Trump doubled down on his tariff threats on China and caused the historic sell-off in stocks to accelerate.
After the Trump administration announced that phones, semiconductors, and computers would be excluded from new tariffs, chipmaker Nvidia (NVDA) said that it will begin manufacturing and testing its chips in the U.S. Indeed, the company stated that it has secured more than 1 million square feet of space in Arizona and Texas to produce its Blackwell chips and AI supercomputers.

After the Trump administration decided to temporarily exclude phones, semiconductors, and computers from new tariffs, Bank of America reaffirmed its top semiconductor stock picks, which include Nvidia (NVDA) and Broadcom (AVGO). The analysts said that although the tariffs have only been delayed, this pause is still a good sign.
