A top adviser to President Donald Trump and world’s richest man Elon Musk has seen his electric vehicle company’s stock continue to fall.
It comes as U.S. stocks ended another tumultuous day lower as markets reel from Trump’s latest threats to crank his tariffs higher.

Tesla (TSLA 0.90%) has been one of 2025’s worst-performing megacap stocks, with shares down by a whopping 28% year to date, compared to the S&P 500’s decline of 7% over the same period. The electric automaker is facing a combination of rising competition and political pressure that is calling its persistently high valuation into question.

Stocks skyrocketed on Wednesday after Trump “authorized a 90-day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%.” Wednesday’s impressive rebound highlighted why long-term investors should remain exposed to stocks in falling markets.
The market gave up some of those gains on Thursday because Wall Street is still waiting for concrete updates on tariff negotiations and clarity on what’s next with China.

A selloff hit U.S. Treasury bonds on Friday, sending yields above levels reached two days earlier when they helped trigger President Donald Trump’s dramatic decision to pause some tariffs.
The reemergence of jitters in the bond market prompted concern on Wall Street about assets that typically serve as a safe-haven investment during moments of instability for stocks.
Tariffs were on, then they were off. At least temporarily, and only some of them — but not for China, which got hit with steeper duties and promptly hit back. Wall Street reeled, then rebounded to its strongest weekly gain in well over a year.
