KEY TAKEAWAYS
-
Supplemental Security Income recipients will receive their November benefit check in October.
-
Social Security payments are typically distributed on Wednesdays, based on the beneficiary’s birth date, unless a holiday falls on that day.
Two Social Security checks will be sent out earlier than usual for beneficiaries this month.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is paid on the first of every month. The needs-based program serves people 65 or older, blind, or with disabilities who have limited income and resources. When the first falls on a weekend or holiday, as Nov. 1 does this year, the payment goes out on the preceding business day. For the upcoming November payments, beneficiaries will receive their check two days early, on Oct. 30.
Social Security benefits for people who filed before May 1, 1997, and for those who get both Social Security and SSI are paid on the third of every month.
The remaining Social Security beneficiaries are paid on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of the month, depending on their birth date. In November, the second Wednesday falls on a holiday, so beneficiaries with a birth date between the first and tenth will get their payments a day early.
Why This Matters
Many seniors struggle to cover their daily expenses and rely on withdrawals from their retirement savings or on their fixed Social Security payments. Knowing the payment date helps them schedule rent, groceries, and other bills.
Here’s the November schedule:
-
Oct. 30: SSI payments for November, paid early because Nov. 1 is a Sunday.
-
Nov. 3: Beneficiaries who filed before May 1, 1997, and those who receive both Social Security and SSI.
-
Nov. 10: Social Security benefits for those born on the 1st through the 10th of any month will be paid a day early due to the Veterans Day holiday.
-
Nov. 18: Social Security benefits for those born on the 11th through the 20th of any month.
-
Nov. 25: Social Security benefits for those born on the 21st through the end of the month.
